MAC gives every Lover Rewards member double points on purchases in their birthday month, and Silver and Gold members get a birthday gift on top. Silver starts at $150 of qualifying purchases in a calendar year and Gold at $500. A new member at Bronze gets the double points but not the gift.
What MAC Cosmetics Is
MAC Cosmetics is a professional makeup brand known for its lipsticks, foundations in a wide shade range, and a long history of working with makeup artists. It sells through its own stores, counters in department stores and online, and is owned by The Estee Lauder Companies.
What Each Tier Gets On Your Birthday
MAC Lover Rewards is free to join and has three tiers. Everyone starts at Bronze, and the FAQ lists the birthday benefit for each:
- Bronze: free to join, with double points on purchases during your birthday month
- Silver: $150 or more in qualifying purchases in a calendar year, with double points plus an exclusive birthday gift
- Gold: $500 or more in a calendar year, with triple points plus an exclusive birthday gift
So the gift depends on how much you spent, not on whether you joined. A hundred and fifty dollars is several full-price products, which is a real bar for a first-year member.
How You Redeem The Gift
The FAQ says you redeem it by making a purchase on maccosmetics.com and selecting your birthday gift offer, which shows up in your account or at checkout. That means the gift comes with an order. It isn’t something you pick up for free.
You can also redeem it at a participating store, with one catch for right now: MAC says that between August 2026 and October 2026 the birthday gift can’t be redeemed in store because of a system upgrade, and in-store purchases won’t earn the double or triple birthday points either. Online orders aren’t affected.
The Birthday Month Window
The gift has to be redeemed during your birthday month. MAC’s example: with an October 13 birthday, you redeem it between October 1 and October 31 or the offer expires. It’s one gift per member per year, and it can’t be transferred, delayed, exchanged or returned.
Your birthday (day and month) has to be in your account to access the gift. Adding it isn’t required to join, so it’s easy to skip. Changing it later means contacting MAC Customer Service.
How Your Tier Holds Up
Tiers are based on qualifying purchases in a calendar year, and your spend and points reset to zero every January 1. The terms say a tier is good for the calendar year you qualify in and the full year after, so reaching Silver this year keeps you there through next year.
Look at your tier in the MAC Lover account before your birthday month starts, not during it. If you’re at Bronze, were going to buy something from MAC anyway and are close to $150, buying before the month starts is the one case where chasing Silver makes sense. Reaching it only for the gift isn’t worth $150.
