Ruth’s Chris has a written birthday dessert at 13 restaurants, the ones run by Prime Hospitality Group, whose Ruth’s Regulars page says “Enjoy our complementary birthday dessert on the house.” The rest of the chain’s website names no birthday offer. To redeem the dessert you need a check subtotal of at least $50.
What Ruth’s Chris Is
Wikipedia calls Ruth’s Chris “a chain of over 100 steakhouses across the United States, Canada and Mexico.” Ruth Fertel started it in New Orleans: the story page says she “mortgaged her house and bought the 60-seat Chris Steak House” in 1965, and when a fire forced a move in 1976 she “added hers to it” and became Ruth’s Chris Steak House. The corporate site is run by Darden, and a separate operator, Prime Hospitality Group, runs 13 of the restaurants and a loyalty program of its own.
How To Get The Ruth’s Chris Birthday Deal
The dessert belongs to Ruth’s Regulars, the loyalty app for the Prime Hospitality Group restaurants. Its page lists “Free dessert on your birthday + wedding anniversary” among the perks and describes the reward this way: “No one celebrates better than Ruth’s. Enjoy our complementary birthday dessert on the house.” Download the app and create an account. The 13 restaurants are in Asheville, Charlotte (two), Boise, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis (two), South Bend, Chesterfield and St. Louis, Rogers, Savannah and West Des Moines.
The $50 Check Rule
The FAQ on that page says: “Spend $50 on Check Subtotal to redeem your birthday reward and anniversary meals.” It also says “Ruth’s Regulars rewards cannot be combined with any other discounts.” Alcohol, tax and gratuity are left out of what counts. So the dessert is free, but only on a dinner that already clears $50 before drinks.
Everything Else Regulars Get
The app pays “1 point for every $1 spent,” and “1,000 points = $50 Reward.” A new member also gets a welcome reward: “As a thank you for signing up – enjoy an appetizer on us!” The FAQ says that appetizer has to be redeemed “within 30 days of signing up,” and points “expire after 60 days.”
Outside The 13 Restaurants
The main Ruth’s Chris site has an eClub with a Date Of Birth field and the line “By subscribing, I affirm I am 21 or older.” The form doesn’t say what the birthday is used for. Darden’s privacy notice says only that “some of our brands provide a free appetizer when you sign up for the eClub, special offers on your birthday, and other special rewards,” without naming Ruth’s Chris. So at a restaurant outside the Prime Hospitality Group list, the pages read give no birthday dessert to count on, and a call to your own location is the way to find out.
What The Old Post Claimed
An earlier version of this post said guests may get a complimentary dessert or a discount on the meal, that the offer usually arrives by email, and that you redeem it by telling the server. The dessert is real at the Prime Hospitality Group restaurants and comes through an app account. No page read mentions a discount on the meal, an emailed offer or mentioning it to the server.
What Was Actually Checked
Ruth’s Chris’s main site (home, story, FAQs, eClub, legal notices and privacy notice), the Prime Hospitality Group home page and Ruth’s Regulars page, and Wikipedia were read on 2026-10-08. The Ruth’s Regulars terms and conditions weren’t read, and none of the pages gives the age rule for the app, the day the dessert is issued, or how long it lasts.
Eligibility and Cost
Ruth’s Regulars is free to join. The birthday dessert needs a check subtotal of $50 or more and a visit to one of the 13 Prime Hospitality Group restaurants.
