Safeway’s birthday treat is real and worth up to $10, and an inactive account won’t get it. The forU program requires a purchase in the last year before the offer will post.
What Safeway Is
Safeway is a supermarket chain with locations concentrated in the western United States, part of Albertsons Companies, which also owns Albertsons, Vons, and several other regional grocery banners sharing the same forU loyalty platform.
How To Get The Safeway Birthday Deal
To get it, join Safeway for U and add your birthday (month and day). You also need to have made a purchase with your for U account in the 12 months before the offer would be added.
What Was Actually Checked
The for U program terms confirm directly: a birthday treat offer worth “up to $10 value” is placed into your account “at the beginning of your birthday month.” Qualifying requires adding your birthday and having “used your for U account to purchase an item in-store or online within the last 12 months prior to the offer being added.” The offer is personalized, non-transferable, limited to one per household per calendar month, and must be redeemed before its stated expiration date; it doesn’t apply to third-party delivery orders.
What Happens If You Add Your Birthday Mid-Month
If you add your birthday during your actual birthday month rather than before it starts, the offer posts the following month instead. Adding it early, well before your birthday month begins, is the safer move if you want the offer to land on time.
Eligibility and Cost
Safeway for U is free to join, with no membership fee. The purchase-history requirement is the only real barrier beyond signing up.
Why This Program Is Worth Tracking Year After Year
Because the offer requires a purchase in the prior 12 months, an occasional shopper who lapses for a year could lose the benefit without realizing it. Making even one small purchase through your for U account periodically is enough to keep it active.
