Athleta’s birthday perk is a gift from Gap Inc., not a code, and it goes to members of Encore, the free loyalty program Athleta shares with Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic. Your birthday has to be on your account at least seven business days before the first day of your birthday month.
What Athleta Is
Wikipedia describes it this way: “Athleta is an athleisure fashion brand owned by Gap Inc.” Its site sorts the range into Bottoms, Tops, Jackets, Bras, Dresses and Accessories, with Athleta Girl, Sale and Preloved alongside. Because Gap Inc. runs one loyalty program across its brands, the FAQ says “your membership tier and benefits travel with you to any of our brands no matter where you enrolled.” The birthday gift belongs to that program, so joining it is where this deal starts.
How To Get The Athleta Birthday Deal
To get it, join Encore and put your birthday on your account early. The FAQ says membership “is free, optional, and open to any U.S. resident (including Puerto Rico) who is 16 or older,” that “No purchase is required to join,” and that you can sign up online or in a store. Then the FAQ tells you what has to happen before the gift: “make sure your birthday is added to your account at least seven business days before the first day of your birthday month.” For a Core member, that means logging in and going to the Personal Information section to enter your birth month and day.
Seven business days is more than a week on the calendar, and weekends and holidays stretch it, so for a March birthday, save it by mid-February to stay clear of the cutoff.
What The Bonus Is, By Tier
The FAQ lists three tiers: Core, which is free to join, Premier, for members who spend more than $350 a year across Gap Inc.’s family of brands, and All-Access, which every cardmember is enrolled in automatically. The birthday gift changes with the tier. Core members get “a special gift from us!” Premier members get that “plus an extra gift to shop for a family member,” and All-Access Cardmembers get a gift “plus gifts you can use to shop for up to three family members.”
To add family members, Premier and All-Access members use “ADD FAMILY MEMBER” at the bottom of the Personal Information section. The form asks for their first name and birth month and day, and lets you “select the preferred brand for their bonus.” The FAQ doesn’t list which brands appear in that choice.
What The FAQ Doesn’t Say
The FAQ never names the gift. Its only description is “Gifts may vary and are selected at Gap Inc.’s discretion.” It doesn’t give a dollar amount or a percentage. It doesn’t say how the gift arrives, how long it’s good for, or whether it works in stores and online. It also doesn’t say what happens if you add your birthday after the seven business days, so treat that cutoff as firm.
If you were an Athleta Rewards member, nothing needs doing to get into the new program, because the FAQ says you’re an Encore Member automatically and that “no action is needed.” That’s worth knowing because it means an old account may already qualify, and the only step left is checking that your birthday is saved.
What Else Encore Members Get
The same FAQ lists a few other benefits for every member. Core members get “free Basic shipping when you spend $50+,” applied at checkout with no code, when you’re signed in. All members can return merchandise “for free for up to 30 days after purchasing for a full refund.” Points convert at “500 points = $1 reward.” None of that is part of the birthday gift, but if you’re already signed in to claim it, it’s the same account.
What Was Actually Checked
Athleta’s Encore Membership Program FAQ was read on 2026-10-02 with a plain page fetch. Gap’s own copy of the Encore FAQ carries the same Birthday Bonus text, word for word. Neither page names what the gift is, which is why this post doesn’t either.
