Lulus advertises a birthday gift but never commits to one in its actual terms. The Love Rewards page promises “a sweet treat” for sharing your birthday. The binding terms and conditions, last updated in December 2025, don’t mention birthdays anywhere.
That gap matters, because the terms are what Lulus is actually bound by, and they describe every member perk as discretionary and subject to change without notice.
What Lulus Is
Lulus is an online women’s fashion retailer selling dresses, separates, shoes, and accessories, with a business built heavily on occasion wear: bridesmaid dresses, wedding guest outfits, homecoming and formal. It operates as Lulu’s Fashion Lounge, LLC, sells direct through lulus.com, and is US-focused, with eligibility determined by shipping address.
What Is Actually Promised
The Love Rewards marketing page carries a “Birthday Reward” heading and the line about sharing your birthday for a sweet treat. It does not say what the treat is, how much it’s worth, when it arrives, or how long it lasts.
The terms then describe Perks generally: personalized offers, coupons, and gifts based on tier status, which “may have certain restrictions including expiration dates and short, time-limited redemption periods,” and which Lulus reserves the right to change at any time.
Read together, the honest summary is that a birthday gift exists as a marketing promise and as a discretionary Perk, not as a defined benefit you can plan around.
The Program Underneath It
Love Rewards is free and open to Lulus account holders who are US residents and at least 18. Members earn 1 point per dollar on eligible purchases, rounded down to whole dollars. Sale items count. Gift cards, tax, shipping, and discounts don’t.
There are four tiers:
- Tier 1: 1 to 299 points
- Tier 2: 300 to 699 points
- Tier 3: 700 to 1,499 points
- Tier 4: 1,500 points and up
Points post 30 days after your order ships, not at purchase, and on a split shipment they all post when the last item ships.
The Rule That Wipes Your Balance
You must make at least one purchase during your rolling year or you lose every point you’ve earned and drop to the entry-level tier. That’s harsher than a normal expiry rule, because it isn’t points aging out one at a time. It’s the whole balance going at once.
Tier status is held for twelve months from the date you reach it, and if you haven’t re-earned enough points by the end of that window you’re moved down to whatever tier your actual earning supports.
One Signup Quirk
California customers have a different opt-in path than everyone else. The terms give California residents their own instructions, going through Account Info to opt in, because the program is treated as a financial incentive under state privacy law. Colorado and New Jersey residents get the same disclosure treatment.
Q&A
Q: So is there a birthday gift or not?
A: Lulus says there is on its rewards page. Its terms don’t define one. Expect something, but don’t plan a purchase around a specific value.
Q: Do points expire?
A: Only through the no-purchase rule. Go twelve months without buying and the entire balance goes.
Q: Do sale items earn points?
A: Yes. Regular and sale merchandise both count.
Q: What happens if I return an order?
A: The points come back off, and if they had lifted your tier, Lulus can move you back down.
