You sign up for a beauty brand’s rewards program because you saw “birthday gift” mentioned somewhere on its site, and you assume it will just show up. Then your birthday comes and goes, and nothing does. The reason is almost always one of two things: you signed up too late, or you haven’t spent enough this year to actually qualify. Neither one makes it into the marketing copy, which is exactly why this list exists.
Beauty birthday freebies aren’t about signing up early. They’re about how much you’ve already spent.
Restaurant birthday rewards mostly ask you to join a set number of days ahead. Beauty brands mostly don’t care when you joined, they care whether you’ve spent enough this year to qualify for anything at all. Two brands here give the birthday gift only above a spend threshold, full stop. A few name a real deadline instead. Most just want your birthdate on file, no purchase and no lead time required. Sourced first-party from each brand’s own program terms, not from the round-ups that still describe programs some of these brands quietly retired or renamed.
These four name a real deadline. Get it on the calendar.
Charlotte Tilbury: a one-time discount code emailed on your birthday through the free Beauty Universe program. Add your birthdate at least 2 weeks before your birthday or you’ll miss this year’s.
Bobbi Brown: a discount that scales with your point tier (Fan: $10 off $30+, Enthusiast: $20 off $61+, Loyalist: $30 off $91+). Your birthdate has to be on file by the 15th of the month before your birthday.
Morphe: a reward that appears in your dashboard, but only if your account was activated on or before the 1st of your birthday month.
bareMinerals: a free, points-based “Good Rewards” birthday gift. Join mid-year and you need 30 days on the books before you qualify.
Sign up today. No deadline, just have your birthdate on file.
Bath & Body Works: a free item up to $9.95, valid 30 days from your birthday. Free Rewards account, no advance window stated beyond having the date on file.
Origins: $10 off a $25 order, available at every membership tier, free to join.
Tarte: a birthday code emailed on your actual birthday to every VIP tier. You have to be logged in to apply it at checkout.
Kiehl’s: a free Lip Balm #1 on your birthday for every member, no tier or points required. Higher tiers add deluxe samples and a travel-size product on top.
Aveda: one gift a year, a certificate mailed within 28 days of your birthdate, good in-store or online during your birthday month.
IT Cosmetics: a free annual birthday gift through the “Reward IT” program. The brand doesn’t publish the exact item or a redemption window.
Beauty Brands: a regional Kansas City chain’s “Take 10 Rewards” gives a free birthday gift at the base tier. Birthday is a required signup field.
Free to join. What you get depends on what you’ve already spent.
MAC Cosmetics: the birthday gift is real, but it only exists for Silver ($150+ a year) and Gold ($500+) members. Bronze, the tier every new member starts at, gets nothing at all. Valid the entire birthday month once you qualify.
Sally Beauty: every member gets double points during their birthday month. The actual $5 birthday certificate is Elite-tier only ($200+ a year).
Fenty Beauty: technically real, but read this before you expect it
Fenty Beauty‘s 15% birthday discount isn’t a Fenty Beauty benefit. It’s a perk of Savage X Rewards, Rihanna’s separate lingerie brand, and that program carries its own monthly membership charge. Shopping at fentybeauty.com and creating a free account gets you nothing. Every other entry on this list is free to join; this one requires paying into an unrelated company’s subscription first.
No birthday program, but a real cashback route instead
Aesop runs no loyalty or rewards program of any kind, on principle, it’s consistent with the brand’s no-discounting positioning, not a gap in research. It does carry a real, merchant-specific cashback rate through Price.com at 2.4%.
NYX Professional Makeup‘s current “ACCESS” program dropped the birthday perk its older “Makeup Crew” program used to advertise; nothing in the current terms mentions a birthday at all. TopCashback carries it at a real 12% instead.
Four that don’t exist
Lush: the US “Lush Club Rewards” program is points and tiers only. Zero mention of a birthday anywhere in its terms or FAQ. A UK “Lush Kitchen” birthday gift exists, but this is the US site.
The Body Shop: the entire US operation closed in 2024. It relaunched digital-only in October 2025 under new ownership, and the current site has no loyalty program at all yet, not even a rewards page.
Glossier: no loyalty or rewards program exists on the site, in any form.
ColourPop: confirmed by the brand’s own support FAQ, no rewards or loyalty program, full stop.
Also worth knowing about
Sephora: one Beauty Insider gift a year, free in store, a real $25 minimum if you redeem online.
Ulta: even less required than Sephora, no purchase in store, barely anything online, plus double points all birthday month.
Urban Waxx: 200 points, automatic, on your birthday, no signup lead time at all.
Thrive Causemetics: a real 1,500-point birthday bonus, but tier-gated the same way MAC is, the base tier doesn’t qualify.
